TAI CHI! "Open Tai Chi Night"
It's happening at 6:00pm on Oct. 28 at the KSW Karate Dojo in Pine Grove (20200 Hwy 88, Pine Grove, CA 95665). A night where anyone who is curious about Tai Chi is welcome to come check it out free of charge and everyone is welcome to bring friends and family.
This one night will be open to anyone who wants to do Tai Chi. Even if you aren't sure what Tai Chi is and you just want to give it a try, this night is for you.
Starting at 6:00pm our open Tai Chi night is just that, open, to everyone, free of charge. If you want to try Tai Chi if you have friends that want to try Tai Chi, if you want to start your family on an exercise program you can all work on together (that will help manage your stress, bring balance to mind and body, and bring your family closer together) come by, bring your friends, and enjoy an evening of low-impact, meditative, exercise.


NOVEMBER TRADE SHOW. ACWN is reaching out to gather a committee to advertise our annual event. We need volunteers to do one or more of the following:
1. Call and get us on the Radio and Local T.V Stations * Do the whole thing, we can write script but cannot physically be there.
2. Get us out to the local media via emails to news papers etc.
3. Put up flyers on bulletin boards
4. Make some signs to post during the day of the event (we will provide verbiage if help is needed)
5. A couple of people to put out signs the day of the event
6. Someone to get balloons and put them up on the gates the day of event 
We welcome any suggestions.
Also We will need help with:
Set up of the Tables on Friday the 8th.
Tear Down of Tables and Clean up of Hall on the 9th
Someone to go gather the signs at the end of the event.

AMADOR FLYFISHERS (AFF) invites you to hear guest speaker John Sherman on Tuesday October 15 at 6:00pm in the Amador County Administration Center at 810 Court Street, Jackson. Prepare for tales of Stripers and Large Mouth Bass, with dazzling imagery! A fly-tying demonstration will begin at 6:00pm followed by our 7:00pm general meeting and John’s presentation on "Fly-fishing the California Delta".  John Sherman is a published writer, former Northern California guide, seasoned angler and sales rep for Simms fishing products.  However, he is perhaps best known for his stunning outdoor/fishing photography. Amador Flyfishers meets the third Tuesday of each month to socialize with other flyfishers, share local fishing reports, and support fishery conservation issues. Visitors welcome - come join us! THE DEMOCRATIC CLUB meets Tuesday, October 15th from 6-8PM at the Democratic Headquarters on Hwy 88/49 in Jackson across from Poor Man's Bronze. This will be our club meeting for the month of October.  We will have guest speakers addressing the issue of mental health issues in Amador County.  It is important that you learn more about mental health issues for yourself or your loved ones.  Come and be informed!

ARE YOU A GRANDPARENT RAISING A GRANDCHILD? Grandparent Café, Wednesday, October 16 at 10:00 am, 10877 Conductor Boulevard, Sutter Creek. Please join us at our Grandparent Café, and meet other grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, discuss needs, and learn about resources and successes. MASTER GARDENERS: GROWING GREAT VEGETABLES, PART 4 - Join Amador Master Gardeners for the last class in the series "Growing Great Vegetables" on Saturday, October 19th from 9am to noon. In many parts of the county, growing vegetables is a year-round activity. Make  the most of your vegetable garden at many elevations. Learn about fall clean-up activities in the garden  and landscape. Find out how to select fall color and dig up and divide bulbs and perennials. Preparation now can make your landscape nearly weed free. This free class is open to be public and is being held at the County GSA Building, 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson. AMADOR HIGH SCHOOL’S 10th ANNUAL BROADWAY DINNER – Sat Oct 19 at 6:30 PM at the Immaculate Conception, Spanish Street, Sutter Creek. FREE CONCERT BY THE AMADOR COUNTY CONCERT BAND – Sun Oct 20 at 3PM. A free concert will be presented by the 48-member Amador County Concert Band under the direction of Steve Chambers and Irv Gidding on Sunday, October 20 at 3pm. The program will be held at the Community Church of Pine Grove, 14045 Ponderosa Way, Pine Grove. Featured music will be “Lord of the Rings”, “Selections from Sweeney Todd”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, “Gabriel’s Oboe” (featuring oboist Amy Von Gunten, “Colonel Bogey March” (from the movie “Bridge Over the River Kwai”), and much more. The 90-minute program will conclude with free refreshments. Join us on October 20 for a fun musical experience; bring the family and enjoy the spirited music! AMADOR SUPERIOR COURT RESCHEDULES LAWDA Environmental lawsuit hearing to 10/22/13. Status Update - 9/6/13 - Amador Superior Court reschedules the lawsuit hearing again to Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013, 9:00 am until 4:30pm.The hearing will be held at AMADOR SUPERIOR COURT 500 Argonaut Lane Jackson, CA 95642. The hearing will be open to the public. The issues of clean air, water and land will be discussed in depth. More info at www.ionevalleylawda.com

NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI) - The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador)  is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, October 22nd in the Oak View Conference Room (2nd floor in the Education Department) at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.  The November meeting has been canceled and the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 10.   From 6:45 to 8:00 pm we will conduct a confidential Support Group for family members and caregivers of those  with mental illnesses.   For information call NAMI Amador (at ATCAA) 209-223-1485 Ex. 266.

LIBATIONS AND CONVERSATIONS - A new AAUW Amador interest group,” Libations and Conversations,” is debuting on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at J&D’s Steakhouse in Sutter Creek.  This is a fun, casual way for AAUW members and interested prospective members to gather monthly at changing venues to discuss various topics related to women’s issues, education and public policy over no-host drinks.  AAUW, a national organization, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.  Membership is open to all graduates who hold an associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.  For more information call Susan at 296-0940 or visit www.aauwamador.org.

'A MORNING OF HOPE: INSIGHTS AND HEALING FROM DEPRESSION" -Saturday, October 26th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, Sutter Creek. Presented by Christine Bitler, LCSW and Susan Komure, LCSW

GOING GATSBY GALA - The Amador Community College Foundation presents the Going Gatsby Gala on November 16th at 5:30 PM at Gold Country Auto Restoration. Step back in time to the Roaring 20's! Dance to Sister Swing! Gatsby era attire is encouraged. The event features a keynote address by Delaine Eastin, Educational and Public Policy Executive, an elegant seated dinner, and silent and live auctions. RSVP by November 1st. WINEFEST 2013 is just around the corner and tickets are now available!  On Saturday November 9th, AmadorArts will be hosting the 16th Annual Winefest in Downtown Sutter Creek.  As always, guests can stroll historic Main Streetwhile tasting a huge selection of Amador County Wines in unique Sutter Creek shops. Guests can check in to pick up their wine glass, wristband and tasting map at the Sutter Creek Auditorium starting at 4pm.  From 4:30- 7pm attendees will explore historic Main Street tasting selections from more than 20 Amador County Wineries poured in participating shops.  At 7pm, the Sutter Creek Auditorium will be the place to return to for dessert tasting, music and the conclusion of the silent auction.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.  All proceeds from this event help AmadorArts continue to support, promote and encourage the Arts in our Schools and Community.

AFGHANS FOR ANGELS, Western Chapter - In Memory of Stephanie Dawn Meadows
Afghans for Angels is an organization, headquartered in Sutter Creek, made up of volunteers who make baby afghans that are then distributed to hospitals. The afghans are stored by the hospitals and given to parents who have suffered the loss of their infant through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.
    We are now providing afghans to 20 hospitals, including Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Ohio, White Memorial in Los Angeles, Sonora Regional Medical Center, and Marshall Hospital in Placerville.  We also donate afghans to photographers who generously give of their time and talent to the Now I Lay me Down To Sleep organization. 
    If you know of someone in need of one of our afghans, or you would like to knit, crochet, or quilt small afghans for us, please contact us at one of the options given below.  We do have yarn available to those who find it difficult to obtain yarn.  More information on the organization can be found at www.afghansforangelscalifornia.com.

AMADOR TRANSIT: MONDAYS IN PLYMOUTH! Every Monday, Amador Transit will make three bus trips leaving our Sutter Hill Transit Center at 7:40am, 11:00am and 3:10pm. The bus will travel through Sutter Creek, Amador City, Drytown, and from Plymouth, to the River Pines Market, then back the same way to the Sutter Hill Transit Center.
Folks from River Pines and Amador City can now get to Plymouth or, to our Transit Center where they can catch a Shuttle to get just about anywhere in Jackson and Sutter Creek every Monday!

STORY TIMES AT THE AMADOR COUNTY LIBRARY. Amador County Library pre-school story time has resumed. Story time runs from September – May and is open to children 0-5 and their caregivers. All story times are 30 minutes and consist of one – three stories, songs and a simple craft. Pre-school story time is also available at the Ione Branch. BOY SCOUTS ARE COLLECTING NEWSPAPER DONATIONS - Do you have stacks of newspapers, laying around your house, waiting to be recycled?  Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County. It's a Win-Win for everyone: our Scouts, you and the environment!

DONATE GLASSES and change someone’s life. Walgreen's now has a Sutter Creek Lion's Club eyeglass recycling box in the Pharmacy area by the table with the brochures. They accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses, and plastic and metal frames. Children’s glasses are especially needed!

The Interfaith Food Bank is trying to rebuild its volunteer roster, specifically on call volunteers.
