ART IN PUBLIC PLACES - The Amador County Artist Association (ACAA) has several benefits to being a member, one of those being Art in Public Places, where the artist can get regular exposure to build a reputation and occasionally make a sale with no commission fees.  This program also gives the location the opportunity to be known for original art on their walls and to promote awareness of original art. The exhibits rotate every 2 months.
Our current locations include Rosebud’s Cafe (downtown Jackson); the Superior Court of CA, County of Amador; American River Bank; Amador Senior Center; Sierra Eye Care; Amador Residential Care; Jackson Paint Spot; and Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione.  Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. New artists and locations are always welcome.  If you would like more information, contact Colleen Williams, Committee Chairperson, colleenwill@volcano.net or (209) 295-2877.

In the extreme fire season we are currently experiencing the need for consolidation and transportation of those supplies is heightened.
ACART has set up a GoFundMe page for the purchase of a large cargo trailer to achieve this goal. Please help us provide a safe haven for our evacuated animal friends by making a contribution at http://www.gofundme.com/ykd5925n.

MASTER GARDENERS ANNUAL TOMATO TASTING CONTEST  -  If you are like most gardeners, tomatoes are number one in your heart.  Most of us eagerly anticipate the first delicious fruit of the season.  We are all looking for the perfect tomato.
Saturday, August 22nd is your chance to put your tomatoes to the ultimate test! The UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County are sponsoring a tomato judging and tasting contest at the Sutter Creek Farmer’s Market.
Bring at least one washed tomato of each variety (at least five cherry tomatoes) to the Sutter Creek Farmers Market by 9:45 AM on Saturday, August 22.  The judges will announce their favorites at 11 AM.  The largest tomato will receive a special award.
Join us for the public tasting and you will have the fun of tasting all kinds of tomatoes, from tiny grape-size tomatoes to giants the size of grapefruits, and a variety of colors, including yellow, orange, pink, tiger striped, and of course, ruby red.  We are sure to have a tomato you’ve never tasted before and that may become your new favorite. Questions? email Bobbie at schome100@gmail.com

GET UP TO $300 FOR YOUR OLD WOOD STOVE - Sierra Hearth & Home is proud to announce that it is part of a nationwide effort for cleaner air.  Now through August 31st, 2015, during Jøtul North America’s third annual Wood Stove Changeout Program, http://jotul.com/us/CAMPAIGN, consumers can bring their current non-EPA-certified stoves to Sierra Hearth & Home, in exchange for a voucher valued at up to $300* toward any current Jøtul wood or gas stove or fireplace insert.  For all vouchers that are redeemed at Sierra Hearth & Home, Jøtul will make a donation to Operation BBQ Relief, http://operationbbqrelief.org/

DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month.  When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day.  Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by. Many will say it is like stepping back in time. Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents.  Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.
Still reaching out for other ideas to encourage folks to volunteer time. If you have any ideas please forward to me at rkf48@aol.com

DO YOU HAVE STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS laying around your house, waiting to be recycled? Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson behind Mel's. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County. It's a Win-Win for everyone, Scouts, you and the environment! For more information, contact Jenny Fritz at artsychickenfarm@gmail.com
