MOTHER LODE FRIENDS OF MUSIC PRESENTS THE FRICTION QUARTET: Saturday, November 12. The award-winning string ensemble, the Friction Quartet, performs at the Sutter Creek Theatre in a concert starting at 3 pm.  They are joined by international concert pianist Jenny Q Chai and renowned composer/percussionist Andy Akiho. Works of Schumann and Akiho. ROUGH SAWN BARN WOOD AND DIMENSION LUMBER Ungraded lumber. Our lumber storage warehouse will be open Saturday, October 22nd from 9am onward. You may visit and purchase lumber at this time. The warehouse is located at the Amador County airport off of Highway #49 at Sutter Hill.
This lumber is produced on a steam powered sawmill located at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Cal. All proceeds from sales go to the Amador Sawmill & Mining Assoc.
Mixed species of wood, mainly Pine and Doug Fir. One by material for rough siding. Various sizes of dimensional lumber, see the photos for examples. If you are interested, we can send you a current stock list.
All lumber sales are FOB Sutter Hill. Cost is $1.25 per board foot plus 9% tax.
Delivery available on orders of $500 or more. Delivery charges based on mileage from Sutter Hill.

MASTER GARDENERS PRESENT: GARDEN DESIGN & IRRIGATION - Now, as we go into winter, is a great time to plan what you want to do next in your garden and to plan the irrigation layout for that design.  There are many options for convenient and easy to maintain garden designs. So let's spend some time thinking and planning ahead.   
Join the Master Gardeners for this free class on creating large and small garden layouts or making improvements in your existing garden. In addition to discussing garden design, irrigation techniques will be explained and appropriate materials for various situations will be discussed. Hand-outs will be provided.
UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador county will offer this class to be held from 9 am to noon on Saturday, October 22 at the Amador County General Services (AG) building, 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson.  It is open to the public.

FACL BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Amador County Library (FACL) is presenting its Fall Book Sale October 21, 22 & 23 at the hall of American Legion Post 108 in Sutter Creek (Martell). The popular sale promises something for every book lover. The Friends have assembled a large collection of used books, and have selected the very best for the sale. In addition to the excellent selection of books, the sale will include a wide assortment of like-new CDs, and DVDs.
The sale kicks off with Member’s Night on Friday, October 21 from 4-7 pm. FACL members will have first choice of all of the books. Non-members can join FACL at the door ($10 for individuals and $15 for families).  There is always excitement in the air as so many book lovers meet in one place to get first pick at the low-priced books (except for special books, nothing is more than $2.00). There is an air of a carnival as friends meet and people fill bags almost too heavy to carry.
The sale continues on Saturday, October 22 from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Sunday, October 23 from 11 am to 3 pm. Sunday is always a big hit as well–with everything in the room at half-price. Many people make a second trip to the book sale for some last-minute specials.

AMADOR COUNTY CONCERT BAND PRESENTS: “BIZET TO BROADWAY” - A FREE concert will be presented by the 48-member Amador County Concert Band under the direction of Steve Chambers and Irv Gidding on Sunday, October 23 at the Community Church of Pine Grove. Doors open at 2:30pm with music starting promptly at 3pm.
Featured music will be a tribute medley from “Irving Berlin Showstoppers”, transcribed for concert band by John Higgins. Another special selection is the music medley from “Chorus Line”, an arrangement by composer Warren Barker, a new movie-title styled composition “The Last Centaur” by renowned file score composer Rosanno Galante,  a solo featuring the band’s oboe section leader Candis Kimball on “Concertante”, a lively rendition of Bizet’s “Gypsy Dance from Carmen”, a Sousa march “Fairest of the Fair” and more!
Cookies and coffee will follow the short music program. Join us; bring the family and enjoy the spirited music! Start planning now and it will pay off in the years to come.  Some questions you may be asking yourself . . . Where should I plant my fruit trees?  What types grow well here?  What varieties taste best?  Does the soil need any special preparation?  Do I need a male and a female plant?  When do I prune?  How do I prune?  When do I fertilize and what do I use?  Do fruit trees need a lot of care? STILL SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: The Amador County Library is seeking volunteers to assist the library staff with Pre-School Story Time at the PLYMOUTH Branch.
Duties include helping to prepare story times by selecting appropriate reading material and crafts for pre-school children.
Story times at the Plymouth Branch are scheduled on the third Wednesday of the month from 10:30-11:00 am.
All county volunteers are required to:
1) Fill out a volunteer application (pick one up at the library);
2) Meet with the County Librarian to go over the volunteer position requirements;
3) Be fingerprinted and have a background check. (Fingerprinting and background checks are paid for by the library.)

MINI-GRANT OPPORTUNITIES: The Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council (ACAPC) has funding available for child abuse prevention mini-grant proposals for the 2016-17 fiscal year. One-time mini-grants will be awarded up to $2,000. The Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council has set aside funds towards the goal of contracting with qualified organizations and agencies to provide child abuse prevention services/programs within the County of Amador. Projects eligible for funding include schools, parent groups, non-profit agencies, and community organizations. The Council – a collaboration of county organizations, agencies, and community members – has found that the unmet needs in the area of child abuse prevention include the following focus areas:
•Drug & Alcohol/Substance Abuse Treatment/Prevention
•Parent Education/Parent Support
•Promoting Mental Wellness/Trauma Informed Care
•Developmentally Appropriate Behavior/Developmental Milestones Education

SUTTER CREEK FIRE HISTORY PROJECTS RECEIVES $1000 FROM SCCBF - A BIG Thank You to the Sutter Creek Community Benefit Foundation for their recent donation of $1,000 to the Sutter Creek Fire History Projects. The Sutter Creek Fire History Projects research, preserve, recreate and display the local fire and fire department history, and will also act as a tourist attraction for Sutter Creek and Amador County as a whole. The projects focus on the volunteer aspects of the local fire department organizations that bound the members together, the social aspects of the groups and their service to the community.

"WOOD ANGELS provide free firewood to seniors, disabled, vets, and others in need who are having a hard time making ends meet.
Wood donations are primarily from private property owners
Wood Angels need to continue this service as the need is growing and they need monetary donations as well as volunteers, who are willing to split wood, stack wood, pick-up wood, and make deliveries of wood.
The group is totally volunteers, and no one is compensated for their time. All monetary donations go towards gas for pick-up/delivery, chainsaws, chains for chainsaws, splitter and splitter repairs, tarps, base rock for yard, pods for storing equipment at yards, new or used trucks for same.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ANIMAL SHELTER: It seems there are always "stray" dogs at the shelter. Many dogs are found wandering by community members, others are picked up by AC.

GREEN WASTE DUMPSTER AT LOCKWOOD FIRE STATION: To assist the upcountry residents with keeping a defensible space around their homes, Amador Fire Safe Council working together with Farmers Insurance obtained a grant to provide a green waste dumpster at Lockwood Fire Station #151.
This is the second year this program has been available to those in the Lockwood Fire District area. Anyone can use the dumpster as long as it is only vegetation - pine needles, leaves and branches less than 2 inches in diameter. Due to the discovery of electronic waste in the dumpster, video cameras are now monitoring the dumpster and fire station area.
The dumpster is located at 23141 Shake Ridge Road, approximately 3 miles above Daffodil Hill. If you use the dumpster, please clean up after use and insure all vegetation is inside the dumpster. No plastic bags are allowed in the dumpster. We encourage everyone to use this free service to help keep your home safe.

FYI: The Office of Administrative Law approved the re-adoption of the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Drought Mortality Amendments. This emergency regulatory action readopts the 1038(k), Forest Practice Rule relating to the harvesting of dead and dying trees related to drought and bark beetle induced mortality.
The Department of Insurance completed the Home/Residential Insurance and Wildfire FAQs” document to provide information for homeowners experiencing cancellations or non-renewals, Fair Plan information and other pertinent homeowner insurance information.  The FAQ document has been posted to the Tree Mortality website.  See links.
