NAMI: "IN OUR OWN VOICE" - At NAMI Amador’s monthly Education & Advocacy meeting  on Tuesday February 25th 5:30PM - 6:45PM, we are fortunate to be able to host  NAMI Gold Country members giving a new presentation, “In Our Own Voice.”
Information about this powerful presentation and discussion from the NAMI website:  NAMI In Our Own Voice (IOOV) unmasks mental illness, using speaker stories to illustrate the individual realities of living with mental illness. You gain a better understanding of what it is like to live with mental illness and stay in recovery. NAMI In Our Own Voice can change attitudes, preconceived notions and stereotypes regarding mental illness.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness - NAMI - develops programs, education classes and support groups and oversees state's trainings of NAMI members.  Trainings are rigorous, and allow members to provide useful and accurate information about mental illness to the public.
More description of the program comes from NAMI Sacramento: IOOV shows how people with serious mental illnesses cope with the realities of their disorders while recovering and reclaiming productive lives with meaning and dignity. The program provides a safe way for people to share the ups and downs of their recovery and learn from others.  IOOV is often a transformative experience for presenters, who are empowered by giving voice to their struggles and successes.
Following the presentation there will be a short Annual meeting, plus discussion of NAMI Amador’s participation in Dandelion Days coming up on March 15-16, and our our NAMI Amador Team participation in the May 3rd Northern California NAMI Walk!
The confidential Family Support Group will follow at 7:00 - 8:15PM. For information, please call NAMI’s number: 2231485, X266.
