KIDS ON STAGE AUDITIONS 2017-2018 Season are Friday, September 8th 2017 at 4pm at The Studio Performing Technique Dance School at 91 Church St. in Sutter Creek. KOS is a free program offered to kids ages 7 – 18 years old. No formal dance training is required to audition, although a strong desire to dance and perform on stage is essential!
At the audition all students will be taught a short musical theater and/ or jazz combination. Students will be divided into small groups to perform the combination to a panel of judges. For those who are tap dancers, an additional combination may be taught and performed. Auditioners are also expected to prepare 15 seconds of any additional talent they wish to share with the judges (singing, acrobatics, drama, art, music, dance, etc.).
Formal dance attire is not required; however, please wear semi-fitted clothing allowing free movement and long hair pulled back away from the face. Jazz shoes are recommended or light weight tennis shoes like vans or converse (no black rubber soles and no street shoes) would be sufficient.

THE 3RD ANNUAL JACKSON FIRE DEPARTMENT DINNER DANCE will be held this year on Saturday, September 16 at the historic Kennedy Mine. This is one of our largest fundraisers that helps up purchase important equipment and train our personnel so that we can provide the highest level of service to those in which we have sworn to protect. This Dinner Dance is a fundraiser to help and support the Jackson Fire Department with the purchase of new equipment and provide personnel with needed training. With live music, local wines, a selfie station and an out of this world barbeque dinner, you are sure to have a great time dancing the night away and socializing with friends and family. Social hour begins at 6:00 pm, where you can enjoy a glass of wine, an ice cold beer, purchase raffle tickets and even bid on silent auction items. Dinner is being prepared by Laughton Ranch and will begin being served buffet style at 7:00 pm. Also this year, Two Steps Down will be performing on stage, playing today's country hits and those of the past. If you haven’t heard this band, you need to check them out! They will for sure be the life of the party this year.
Drink tickets (beer or wine) will be $5 each, single bottles of wine can be purchased for $20. Raffle tickets will be $1 each, 10 for $9 or 25 for $20.
All proceeds received go to help with the purchase of new life saving equipment, provide training for fire department personnel, and ensure the citizens of Jackson have the best and most qualified firefighters in all of California.

SUTTER CREEK VISITOR CENTER NEEDS VOLUNTEERS - The Sutter Creek Visitor Center is a fun place to volunteer at. The folks coming in are on vacation, having fun and love to talk to the locals. Mostly they just want information on what to do while they are in our area and we have lots of brochures for them to choose from.

FAMILY STRENGTHENING MINI-GRANTS: APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED - The Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council (ACAPC) has funding available for family strengthening mini-grant proposals for the 2017-18 fiscal year. One-time mini-grants will be awarded up to $2,000. Projects eligible for funding include schools, parent groups, non-profit agencies, and community organizations.
Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council has set aside funds towards the goal of contracting with qualified organizations and agencies to provide family strengthening services/programs within the County of Amador. The Council – a collaboration of county organizations, agencies, and community members – has found that the unmet needs in the area of family strengthening include the following focus areas:
  • Drug & Alcohol/Substance Abuse Treatment/Prevention
  • Parent Education/Parent Support
  • Promoting Mental Wellness /Trauma Informed Care
  • Developmentally Appropriate Behavior/Developmental Milestones Education
  • Neglect/Distracted Parenting and Child Safety

🚧CALTRANS PAVING SR-16 IN AMADOR COUNTY
AMADOR COUNTY - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is preparing to begin an improvement project on State Route 16 (SR-16) that will repave nine miles of highway from the Sacramento/Amador County line to the SR-16/SR-49 junction, north of Drytown.
This project will improve the road surface, efficiency of travel and safety for motorists traveling in Amador County.
Work is scheduled to be completed in October 2017.
Motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Work is scheduled to be done mostly at day, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Telfer Pavement Technologies will perform the work under a $2.05 million contract.
Work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and construction related issues.

PLEASE HELP BREAK BREAD WITH FRIENDS!!
Break Bread with Friends is an outreach program supported by the parishes of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Jackson United Methodist Church, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Jackson.  Each Saturday morning, parishioners from the 3 churches, along with occasional volunteers from other Christian churches, meet at the Methodist Church fellowship hall. There, they prepare and serve a free breakfast and a bag lunch "to go" to all who come. Guests are warmly and cheerfully welcomed and  treated with respect. Volunteers enjoy working together ecumenically, being Christ's hands assisting people in need.

ONETO FAMILY FARM NOW OPEN FOR THE SEASON
Our motto: Plant Your Dreams and Watch Them Grow! Located 5 miles east of Jackson on Hwy 88, the farm was started in the early 1900s by John and Lena Oneto, Also known as a truck garden, the farm produced a variety of fruits and vegetables including apples, cherries, corn, squash, melons, potatoes, Italian plums and Oneto onions. Many locals remember Cucumber Joe, a cousin that worked the farm for many years. The farm closed in the 1970's and has sat idle waiting for the next generation of farmers. Today we strive at growing an assortment of fruits and vegetables using sustainable farming practices.  We are now open for the season! We currently have squash, cucumbers, Basil, chard, leeks, onions, and French plums. We are open from dawn to dusk every day of the week. COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES SEEKS VOLUNTEERS TO BE THERE FOR A CHILD - Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Amador County is seeking volunteers to join their next training session to become volunteer advocates.
A volunteer advocate, known as a CASA, after 40 hours of training, are assigned to be a special person in the life of a child who has been neglected or abused.  The court will appoint the CASA to be the eyes and ears of the court and to report back to the court information they have gathered. The CASA will also tell the court what decisions and services may be in the best interest of that child.
CASA of Amador currently has a waiting list of children who are in need of a CASA.

MINI-GRANT OPPORTUNITIES: The Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council (ACAPC) has funding available for child abuse prevention mini-grant proposals for the 2016-17 fiscal year. One-time mini-grants will be awarded up to $2,000. The Amador Child Abuse Prevention Council has set aside funds towards the goal of contracting with qualified organizations and agencies to provide child abuse prevention services/programs within the County of Amador. Projects eligible for funding include schools, parent groups, non-profit agencies, and community organizations. The Council – a collaboration of county organizations, agencies, and community members – has found that the unmet needs in the area of child abuse prevention include the following focus areas:
•Drug & Alcohol/Substance Abuse Treatment/Prevention
•Parent Education/Parent Support
•Promoting Mental Wellness/Trauma Informed Care
•Developmentally Appropriate Behavior/Developmental Milestones Education
•Neglect/Distracted Parenting and Child Safety
Mini-Grant applications may be submitted to ACAPC at any time throughout the 2017-18 fiscal year, however grant reviews and awards will occur bi-monthly. ART IN PUBLIC PLACES - The Amador County Artist Association (ACAA) has several benefits to being a member, one of those being Art in Public Places, where the artist can get regular exposure to build a reputation and occasionally make a sale with no commission fees.  This program also gives the location the opportunity to be known for original art on their walls and to promote awareness of original art. The exhibits rotate every 2 months.
Our current locations include Rosebud’s Cafe (downtown Jackson); the Superior Court of CA, County of Amador; American River Bank; Amador Senior Center; Sierra Eye Care; Amador Residential Care; Jackson Paint Spot; and Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione.  Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. DO YOU HAVE STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS laying around your house, waiting to be recycled? Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson behind Mel's. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County.
