MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES - American Legion Blue Mountain Post 787 of West Point will present Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 26, 2014, at 12 Noon at the Amador Memorial Cemetery, 25999 Highway 88 in Pioneer. Services will be followed by a luncheon provided by the American Legion Post 108 Auxiliary of Sutter Hill.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 63 ANNUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST - Sun June 1st  from 7-10AM at the Sutter Creek Auditorium., Sutter Creek. The Sutter Creek Boy Scout Troop 63 will continue its annual tradition of holding a pancake breakfast the morning of the Italian Picnic Parade. Troop 63 is recognized as one of the top troops in all of Boy Scouting and regularly produces Eagle Scouts at a rate many times higher than the national average. This event is one of the top fundraisers for this troop and all are invited to attend. This is your opportunity to support a great program that is developing fine young men. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast, and to get yourself downtown early enough to grab a prime viewing location for the parade. JACKSON LIONS CLUB RODEO QUEEN CONTEST THIS SATURDAY
The Jackson Lions Club announces the finalists in the Rodeo Queen Competition to be held May 24 at Howard Park in Ione:

The horsemanship competition will last from 10 am until noon, and a dinner at Evalyn Bishop Hall at 5 pm will feature the young women's interviews and speeches, with one young woman named the queen and the runners up as her court. NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI AMADOR) - The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, May 27th in the Multi-conference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. FREE YOGA EVENT COMES TO JACKSON - On May 31, local yoga enthusiasts will present a FREE opportunity for all ages to try a gentle yoga session, outdoors in Detert Park.  All levels are welcome, even if you’ve never done yoga before.  No pre-registration is required – check in starting at 9:30am. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water and a mat if you have one. If not, bring a large towel or two. FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY  “SHOW & SHINE” CAR & VINTAGE AIRCRAFT SHOW – Sat May 31 at the Eagle’s Nest Airport in Ione, off of Ione Road. The show expects cars from throughout California and Nevada, and will feature vehicles in all categories from street rods to stock pre-1960, modified, foreign cars and more. Some trucks will also be on display.
Food, beverage and auto accessory vendors will be on site to accommodate all attendees. Amador County is known for its fine wines, and several vintners will be on-site for tasting.  A pancake breakfast will be served by the local Boy Scout Troop 477 from 7:00 to 10:30 AM. All proceeds from this breakfast will be donated to the Troop. For those with a sweet tooth, Boy Scout Troop 581 will be serving sundaes. Other food vendors will include a variety of tasty faire.
All proceeds will go to local youth organizations and the Interfaith Food Bank. General admission for the public will be $5.00 per car. AMADOR FARMERS MARKETS OPEN JUNE 1 - The first Farmers Market opens on June 1st in Jackson in Mel's parking lot, then June 4th in Pine Grove park, then June 7th in Sutter Creek Eureka St. parking lot. This will be the 20th anniversary for the markets, providing locally grown and produced fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, olive oil, handmade clothing, crafts, soaps and lotions.
Friends of thr Library will be selling books, Master Gardners will have their annual Tomato Tasting event, salsa and shortbread competitions will resume. Children's painting classes will return to the Sutter Creek market. The market schedules are: Jackson, Sundays, 9:00am-12:30; Pine Grove, Wednesdays, 3:00-6;00pm, Sutter Creek, Saturdays, 9:00am-12:00. Plymouth, August and September only, 4:00-7:00pm, downtown park.

MASTER GARDENERS PRESENT: CONTROLLING WEEDS IN THE LANDSCAPE - Amador County Farm Advisor and well known weed expert, Scott Oneto, UCCE, will present “Controlling Weeds in the Landscape” on Saturday, June 14. Please bring with you a fresh sample of any weeds (in a flowering state if possible) you may have questions about. This free class will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Amador County GSA Building, 12200-B Airport Road Jackson/Martell. AMADOR CHILDREN’S THEATER WORKSHOP -  This is a 4-week Theatre Workshop for girls and boys ages 7-12 with lots of energy and creativity.  Last Year’s workshop was a complete success. GENTLE YOGA CLASSES - Team Fitness in Pine Grove is proud to announce the start of a Beginning Hatha Yoga Program with classes offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting in early April.

NEW “AMADOR RIDES” VOLUNTEER DRIVER PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS - Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer experience that provides a meaningful service to your neighbors in Amador County? Then consider volunteering for the new Amador Rides Volunteer Driver Program. 
The program is designed to help Amador County residents who have no other means of transportation get to healthcare appointments. Amador Rides is a collaborative program of the Social Service Transportation Advisory Council (SSTAC), plus other local service providers, with Amador Transit Mobility Management spearheading the program.

JoAnn is an author of books that focus on the roles women played during the California Gold Rush. JACKSON LIONS CLUB RODEO QUEEN CONTEST THIS SATURDAY
The Jackson Lions Club announces the finalists in the Rodeo Queen Competition to be held May 24 at Howard Park in Ione:

The horsemanship competition will last from 10 am until noon, and a dinner at Evalyn Bishop Hall at 5 pm will feature the young women's interviews and speeches, with one young woman named the queen and the runners up as her court. NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI AMADOR) - The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, May 27th in the Multi-conference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. FREE YOGA EVENT COMES TO JACKSON - On May 31, local yoga enthusiasts will present a FREE opportunity for all ages to try a gentle yoga session, outdoors in Detert Park.  All levels are welcome, even if you’ve never done yoga before.  No pre-registration is required – check in starting at 9:30am. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water and a mat if you have one. If not, bring a large towel or two. FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY  “SHOW & SHINE” CAR & VINTAGE AIRCRAFT SHOW – Sat May 31 at the Eagle’s Nest Airport in Ione, off of Ione Road. The show expects cars from throughout California and Nevada, and will feature vehicles in all categories from street rods to stock pre-1960, modified, foreign cars and more. Some trucks will also be on display.
Food, beverage and auto accessory vendors will be on site to accommodate all attendees. Amador County is known for its fine wines, and several vintners will be on-site for tasting.  A pancake breakfast will be served by the local Boy Scout Troop 477 from 7:00 to 10:30 AM. All proceeds from this breakfast will be donated to the Troop. For those with a sweet tooth, Boy Scout Troop 581 will be serving sundaes. Other food vendors will include a variety of tasty faire.
All proceeds will go to local youth organizations and the Interfaith Food Bank. General admission for the public will be $5.00 per car. AMADOR FARMERS MARKETS OPEN JUNE 1 - The first Farmers Market opens on June 1st in Jackson in Mel's parking lot, then June 4th in Pine Grove park, then June 7th in Sutter Creek Eureka St. parking lot. This will be the 20th anniversary for the markets, providing locally grown and produced fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, olive oil, handmade clothing, crafts, soaps and lotions.
Friends of thr Library will be selling books, Master Gardners will have their annual Tomato Tasting event, salsa and shortbread competitions will resume. Children's painting classes will return to the Sutter Creek market.

The market schedules are: Jackson, Sundays, 9:00am-12:30; Pine Grove, Wednesdays, 3:00-6;00pm, Sutter Creek, Saturdays, 9:00am-12:00. Plymouth, August and September only, 4:00-7:00pm, downtown park.

MASTER GARDENERS PRESENT: CONTROLLING WEEDS IN THE LANDSCAPE - Amador County Farm Advisor and well known weed expert, Scott Oneto, UCCE, will present “Controlling Weeds in the Landscape” on Saturday, June 14. Please bring with you a fresh sample of any weeds (in a flowering state if possible) you may have questions about. This free class will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Amador County GSA Building, 12200-B Airport Road Jackson/Martell. AMADOR CHILDREN’S THEATER WORKSHOP -  This is a 4-week Theatre Workshop for girls and boys ages 7-12 with lots of energy and creativity.  Last Year’s workshop was a complete success. The workshop will begin with improvisational games, stage direction & stage presence while building confidence through a theatre team.  The team will learn all aspects of theatre production ending with 2 live performances.  Teaching children respect for others, building self-esteem and reinforcing teamwork to achieve a common goal through performance and fun.

NEW “AMADOR RIDES” VOLUNTEER DRIVER PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS - Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer experience that provides a meaningful service to your neighbors in Amador County? Then consider volunteering for the new Amador Rides Volunteer Driver Program. 
The program is designed to help Amador County residents who have no other means of transportation get to healthcare appointments. Amador Rides is a collaborative program of the Social Service Transportation Advisory Council (SSTAC), plus other local service providers, with Amador Transit Mobility Management spearheading the program.
