17TH ANNUAL ART ON THE LAWN IS STILL ON: After much discussion and consideration we have decided to remain on schedule with our Hospice of Amador & Calaveras’ 17th Annual Art on the Lawn Fundraiser next Friday night,  Sept 25th.  During the past week we have experienced significant challenges including the temporary relocation of 10 hospice patients, evacuating (and then returning to) our administrative office as fire raced down the hill behind us coming within 5-10 feet of our building, trying to support staff members who have been displaced both temporarily and permanently etc. I am pleased to report that at the end of this day each patient will be returning safely to their homes or are being moved to a more permanent location. (With the exception of those who have moved out of the area). Our administrative office was restored quickly and is back up and running at 100% (Thanks to the amazing work by fire personnel whose helicopters and staff were on the scene within 5 minutes thus preventing our office from being overtaken by flames). In addition, both Thrift Stores have reopened this week and we, like everyone else impacted by this tragedy, are continuing to do our best to begin the process of full recovery. Our stores are providing support where they can in both Amador and Calaveras Counties.
In the middle of all of this if you are able to come out next Friday night to support our Fundraiser that would be fabulous and please pass the word. We will be allocating a portion of the event’s proceeds to aid our patients, families, and staff members who have displaced. Tickets are still available. Please spread the word as we need your support more than ever! Call 223-5500 or visit www.hospiceofamador.org   Thank you for your support of our hospice mission and our ability to continue to care for our patients and families who have been affected by this devastating wildfire.

AMADOR DEMOCRATS will be presenting the movie "G-Dog" on Saturday, September 19th at noon at our office in the Mother Lode Plaza, 557 So. Hwy 49, Suite 3, Jackson, California.
G-DOG is a story about second chances - about the charismatic visionary Greg Boyle, a Jesuit priest who rescues kids from gangs and launching the nation's largest, most successful gang intervention and rehab program, Homeboy Industries, now an international model.  The film tells the entertaining, often hilarious story of how Father Boyle, called G-Dog by homies, became a gang expert using a powerful idea: "Nothing Stops a Bullet Like a Job."  By providing job training, tattoo removal, counseling, yoga, fatherhood and substance abuse classes - all free, Homeboy in Los Angeles has a 70% success rate at saving kids at-risk from gang life, rescuing thousands of former gang members.  It's the one place in the 'hood that turns lives around and builds a productive future for young men and women.  It's a place of hope and kinship, a community when Father Boyle says, "no matter what, the day won't ever come where I withdraw and withhold, or cut you off..that day won't ever come."
Please join us to view this uplifting and feel good movie.
If you have further questions, please call.

ATTENTION GOLDEN CHAIN MEMBERS, VENDORS & FRIENDS: Our inventory of the large, 25 inch by 38 inch laminated Golden Chain Poster map was exhausted. After seriously questioning the wisdom of replenishing the inventory at my age, I bit the bullet and ordered a new supply in a quantity that allowed me to retain the original pricing structure of $40.00 retail.
Wholesale will be $20.00 per map on orders of 3 maps or greater. For those with a suitable display location a single display copy will be available for $20.00.
All orders at this time will be greatly appreciated, to offset the capital expenditure required to secure enough maps to enable me to offer this price.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES - The Amador County Artist Association (ACAA) has several benefits to being a member, one of those being Art in Public Places, where the artist can get regular exposure to build a reputation and occasionally make a sale with no commission fees.  This program also gives the location the opportunity to be known for original art on their walls and to promote awareness of original art. The exhibits rotate every 2 months.
Our current locations include Rosebud’s Cafe (downtown Jackson); the Superior Court of CA, County of Amador; American River Bank; Amador Senior Center; Sierra Eye Care; Amador Residential Care; Jackson Paint Spot; and Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione.  Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. New artists and locations are always welcome.  If you would like more information, contact Colleen Williams, Committee Chairperson, colleenwill@volcano.net or (209) 295-2877.

CALL TO ARTISTS: ATTENTION GRAPHIC DESIGNERS! We need your help. If you're good at logo design, please consider adding your time and talents to our community-based effort.
The Amador-Calaveras Consensus Group is a community-based organization that works to create fire-safe communities, healthy forests and watersheds, and sustainable local economies in Amador and Calaveras counties. We started work in 2008, but have never had a proper logo. Now that we're going to have a real website, it's time for us to have a logo, too.
The logo should reflect our mission, above, and our focus on balancing the environment, economy and community. You can read more about the group, its diverse members, and its work here:

DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month.  When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day.  Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by. Many will say it is like stepping back in time. Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents.  Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.
Still reaching out for other ideas to encourage folks to volunteer time. If you have any ideas please forward to me at rkf48@aol.com

AMADOR SENIOR VISITORS PROGRAM NEEDS VOLUNTEERS. Join a great group of people working in the community to help our Senior Citizens live safer, healthier lives. Please call Eileen at 223-0442 for information about how you can help!

DO YOU HAVE STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS laying around your house, waiting to be recycled? Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson behind Mel's. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County. It's a Win-Win for everyone, Scouts, you and the environment! For more information, contact Jenny Fritz at artsychickenfarm@gmail.com
