AMADOR DEMOCRATS PRESENT: “EVERYTHING IS A PRESENT” - Sat June 7 at 1PM at the Amador Democrats Headquarters at 829 Hwy 49/88, Jackson, CA across from Poor Man's Bronze.
How many people remain in good shape, both mentally and physically, at the age of 106? The answer, of course, if very few. Alice Sommer Herz is among those exceptional few. And how many have the gift of forgiveness? And how many are free of hatred? Gigi Sommer has both of those qualities. She was imprisoned, with her six-year-old son, in the Theresienstadt concentration camp and saw unspeakable atrocities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5VTkQKgxkY
She lost her mother and husband in Nazi death camps but she does not hate her persecutors. This is not because they are anything other than monstrous criminals but because she has the wisdom to know that all hatred hurts the soul of the hater, not the hated and Gigi Sommer's inspiring soul is among the things which she has kept intact and unblemished through her hundred and six years. She was a pianist of distinction, played more that 100 concerts in the Theresienstadt camp and is in no doubt that music saved both her sanity and her life and the lives of many others in those unimaginable circumstances.
Please join us for this inspirational film on Saturday. Refreshments will be served.

AMADOR COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) TRAINING CLASS STARTS IN JULY - CASA uses trained volunteers to work with children who are involved with the local Dependency Court. The children are members of a family in which they have become abused or neglected. The CASA volunteer works with the child to make sure that the child is receiving all the services and support necessary to help them overcome any deficits and to achieve success as they grow and mature. The volunteer provides information to the Court which in turn allows the Court to make sure the family is able to minimize the possibility of any similar situations in the future.
The CASA program is having a training class starting in July and welcomes anyone who has an interest in helping a child achieve their full potential. The only requirement is time to spend with the child and a good heart. For an application and/or more information please contact John Stettler at 223-1485 x264 or email at jstettler@atcaa.org. Right now there is a critical need for volunteers and children are waiting for someone who cares. It is a fulfilling experience you will never regret, or as we say “Working with children is a life changing experience”
Thanks,
John Stettler
CASA Program Coordinator
