VIA SUTTER CREEK POLICE: DON'T LEAVE YOUR CAR RUNNING UNATTENDED!
This morning, an overnight visitor to Sutter Creek left her car running and unattended for an extended period of time. When she came outside, she found the car was gone.
A Sutter Creek PD Officer responded to assist. During his investigation, he determined that there were electronic devices left in the car when it was stolen that were capable of being tracked.
The officer tracked the car to Watsonville, and contacted Watsonville PD. They conducted surveillance on the unoccupied car. When the suspect returned to the car, he was taken into custody.
The Amador City resident said that he watched the car running unoccupied for 10 minutes before deciding to take it and go to Santa Cruz to purchase drugs, and then to Watsonville.
At press time it appeared as if all of the property left in the packed vehicle was present when it was recovered.
Thanks to a diligent Sutter Creek PD Officer, and the invaluable assistance of the Watsonville Police Department, a citizen's stolen property has been recovered, and the person responsible for that theft has been taken off the streets.

Gold star for the officer and a big THANK YOU to Watsonville PD!!

VIA SUTTER CREEK POLICE DEPT: MOUNTAIN LION SIGHTING
On March 16, 2017 at approximately 9:45 am, a City of Sutter Creek employee encountered a mountain lion on Mahoney Mill Road, approximately 1.5 miles south of the treatment plant.
The following tips from the California Dept. of Fish and Game are worth remembering:
Do not hike, bike, or jog alone.
• Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active – dawn, dusk, and at night.
• Keep a close watch on small children.
• Do not approach a mountain lion.
• If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects. Pick up small children.
• If attacked, fight back.
• If a mountain lion attacks a person, immediately call 911.
Be safe!

VIA ACN READER: SCAM ALERT: "In the last week, I've gotten two calls from a man claiming to be from the "Health and Safety Agency, calling on a recorded line." Since I know there is no agency by that name, I have asked him about what agency he represents, his phone number, where they're located, etc. Then he hangs up. Today he said he was representing "the Senior Care Authority" -- which is also not a real entity. This is clearly a scam to defraud seniors. Please share with others so they will look out for it."
-----
VIA ACN READER: The Sierra Wind Wellness & Recovery Center on Argonaut in Jackson has had some issues with illegal dumping on their property. The police have been notified, but if you see such activity (possibly at night/early morning hours), please get a description of the vehicle(s) or individuals and call your local law enforcement.

SCAM ALERT: Phone scams are on the rise across the USA, and in our region.
We have received several calls in past 3 days that sound SO 'real' that we want to warn neighbors. These are mechanical 'robocalls' that seem VERY 'real', as if an actual human being is making the call...but it's a machine, designed to record YOU when they ask, "Can you hear me?" or something like, "Is that OK now?" HANG UP ON THESE CALLS! Otherwise, your innocent 'yes' can be recorded and lead you into 'signing on' to all sorts of scams! Our numbers are on the 'no-call' list, but we have had several, here are two from the past couple of days. If your phone rings and you hear either line, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY, technology has made these sound like 'real' people, it's just another robocall trying to CHEAT you:
1. "Hi, this is Jason at Customer Service...can you hear me?" (Wow, this is a creepy new angle!) HANG UP immediately!
Another call two min ago from 916-583-5039...
2. This female scam robovoice starts with something along the lines of "Oh...sorry, didn't hear you, dropped my headset...is this OK?" THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT SAY A WORD, HANG UP! We have been called about 4 times in past 2 weeks...don't fall for it, neighbors!
-----
VIA CITIZEN REPORT: POSSIBLE SCAM ALERT
My husband just sent me the following email:
There was a phone message from B of A asking for clarification of our "profile".  With a phone number to call.  And a different number if we think the message to us is in error.  Do we have an acct. with them?  I just checked my credit cards and I see that the Working Assets is B of A. Since you're more likely to have the info they want, I'll let you call them unless you want me to.  1-877-526-8680.  For errors, 1-877-551-0127.
Neither number matched the customer service number on the back of my VISA card. So i called the number on the back of my card, went through the usual security questions with pleasant woman in Utica New York and she searched the B of A phone and "transfer tree" and could not find either number.  We agree that it might be a scam and that i should not call either number back.  She also checked my account and could find no evidence of any alerts or possible fraudulent activity. So i had my husband delete the message.
Spread the word - the twist of offering a number to call if you think the message might be "in error" is a new one.

VIA SUTTER CREEK POLICE: Recently we have experienced a number of residential burglaries in Sutter Creek. These crimes are understandably disturbing to the citizens, and they are disturbing to the police department.
Our officers have increased their patrol of residential areas, so you should expect to see more of the officers cruising through the neighborhoods. Please feel free to flag them down and talk with them if you have questions, or if you have something that you feel might help solve these crimes.
Typically, these crimes occur during the day when the criminal believes the homeowners are away. From the neighbor’s house across the street, it may look like a stranger knocking on the front door and then going around to the back of the house moments later.
We are fortunate in Sutter Creek to have many residents who are retired, or who work from home. In our efforts to prevent these burglaries and other crimes in our neighborhoods, those of you who are home represent our most powerful crime prevention tool. We need your eyes, and we need your voices.
So, if you see something suspicious, we encourage you to report it to the police department immediately. On a personal note, I want to share that many years ago, my home was burglarized in the very manner I have described above. It was traumatic to my family, and we felt violated and angry that someone had come into our home and fled with our stuff. We at the Sutter Creek Police Department will do everything in our power to prevent this from occurring to anyone else, and ask you all to join us by keeping an eye out for each other and reporting suspicious activity.
James O’Connell
Chief of Police

FUNDRAISER FOR JAMES VEGA: I am asking for help for this great family, the Vega's . Victor and Charlotte Vega have raised two great kids, Hannah and James, in a small rural community based in Amador County. Their son, James, was just accepted to SOU to continue his education. He is an outstanding student academically and a gifted athlete that helped bring our local football team to state championships this 2016 season. Victor, a hard working Christian man, just recovering from knee surgery received notification from his job and was laid off from Lowe's yesterday after serving 17 years for the corporation. Victor is still in recovery phase for the next 6 months. He was the breadwinner for the family and now they have no means to send James to college.
I am pleading for my nephew, James, deserves so much in life and more. Would you please find it in your heart to donate, every dollar counts to help a bright young man continue with his dreams! Help spread the word!

GREEN WASTE DUMPSTER AT LOCKWOOD FIRE STATION: To assist the upcountry residents with keeping a defensible space around their homes, Amador Fire Safe Council working together with Farmers Insurance obtained a grant to provide a green waste dumpster at Lockwood Fire Station #151.
This is the second year this program has been available to those in the Lockwood Fire District area. Anyone can use the dumpster as long as it is only vegetation - pine needles, leaves and branches less than 2 inches in diameter. Due to the discovery of electronic waste in the dumpster, video cameras are now monitoring the dumpster and fire station area.
The dumpster is located at 23141 Shake Ridge Road, approximately 3 miles above Daffodil Hill. If you use the dumpster, please clean up after use and insure all vegetation is inside the dumpster. No plastic bags are allowed in the dumpster. We encourage everyone to use this free service to help keep your home safe.

DO YOU HAVE STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS laying around your house, waiting to be recycled? Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson behind Mel's. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County. It's a Win-Win for everyone, Scouts, you and the environment! For more information, contact Jenny Fritz at artsychickenfarm@gmail.com
