PROSTATE CANCER INFORMATION & SUPPORT GROUP MEETING - The Amador County Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday October 13, 2015 starting at 6:00 pm. The location is Sutter Amador Hospital in the Oakview Conference Room on the second floor.
The group was formed to support men and their families and others who wish to know more about Prostate Cancer. Meetings are open to all and include men who have recovered from Prostate Cancer as well as those recently diagnosed, and those in treatment. The types of treatments range in scope from taking a watchful waiting active surveillance approach to radiation or surgery. Periodically meetings offer DVDs  and updates on research.
The meetings have information regarding nutrition and prostate cancer. We encourage anyone who wants to learn more about cancer and nutrition to attend.

ALASKAN “SALMON FEAST” - The Sutter Creek United Methodist Church will be holding a “Salmon Feast” on Saturday, October 17 at 6 p.m. In the Sutter Creek United Methodist Social Hall. Freshly caught Alaskan Coho “Silver” salmon will be the main course which will include wine, rolls, dinner salad, rice pilaf, vegetables and dessert.  The proceeds of the dinner will benefit the Sutter Creek United Methodist Church the Sutter Creek Community Benefit Foundation and the Butte Fire Victims.

18TH ANNUAL WINEFEST, the popular walk-about wine-tasting event sponsored by
AmadorArts, is just around the corner! On Saturday November 14th, stroll historic Main Street while tasting a huge selection of Amador County Wines in Sutter Creek’s shops.  Follow the adage “Save Water, Drink Wine,” and you’ll be helping to bring the arts to local schools.
 Guests can check in to pick up their wine glass, wristband and tasting map at the Sutter Creek Auditorium starting at 4:00 pm. Take a look at the huge silent auctions, one for Art, for Wine and a Table of Premier Gifts and Travel Packages. Start bidding while sampling Amador Olive Oils. Then begin your journey from 4:30 -7:00 pm walking up and down the three blocks of historic Main Street visiting 25 shops which each will be offering tastings of a different fine Amador County winery.
At 7:00 pm, return to the Auditorium for the Winefest festive Grand Finale, which will feature live music, desserts and dessert wines, the silent auctions’ final biddings, and the popular Mystery Wine-in-a-Bag Auction. The Winefest event will end at about 8:30 pm.
Advance tickets are $30 each, or $35 the day of the event at the auditorium starting at 4:00 pm.

RIGHTURN: VOLUNTEERS & MENTORS NEEDED - The Kiwanis Club of Amador County will be sponsoring a Righturn.Club at a local elementary school. We are looking for assistance in getting this off the ground. We need mentors, facilitators, and helpers. The 10 week program, meeting after school twice a week for 90 minutes this fall, will give obese kids the help they need to make a right turn in their eating habits and fitness.   You don't have to be an athlete, a teacher, or in perfect shape to be a mentor. HS and college students, retired folks, people who have flexible schedules at work are ideal. The helpers will prepare healthy snacks for 40 twice a week, food provided and deliver to school. The facilitators will help with the program in making craft items for the kids, like booklets, magnets and name badges. All supplies paid for by Kiwanis of Amador County.
  Want to start a Righturn.Club in your area? Thomas will give you all you need to start one, and speak to your local Kiwanis Club to provide the funding. No cost to students. All mentors will be screened for the safety of the kids. Visit www.Righturn.Club to learn more.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES - The Amador County Artist Association (ACAA) has several benefits to being a member, one of those being Art in Public Places, where the artist can get regular exposure to build a reputation and occasionally make a sale with no commission fees.  This program also gives the location the opportunity to be known for original art on their walls and to promote awareness of original art. The exhibits rotate every 2 months.
Our current locations include Rosebud’s Cafe (downtown Jackson); the Superior Court of CA, County of Amador; American River Bank; Amador Senior Center; Sierra Eye Care; Amador Residential Care; Jackson Paint Spot; and Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione.  Currently, the program has a good balance of artists to locations. FREE GREEN WASTE RECYCLING IN SUTTER CREEK: A dumpster has been placed at the Sutter Creek Fire District Station One, 350 Hanford Street, for yard waste recycling. This service is available to ALL Amador County citizens. Only small yard pruning are accepted, no large limbs, stumps, garbage, appliances or construction debris.

THE MONTEVERDE GENERAL STORE MUSEUM, one of Sutter Creek’s most beloved and historical buildings, got a much needed fresh look recently, with new paint and store name. DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month.  When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day.  Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by. Many will say it is like stepping back in time. Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
 It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents.  Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.

There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County.
