POSITION OPEN AT LFPD: SECRETARY
Lockwood Fire Protection District has an opening for the position of Board Secretary.  The Secretary position includes taking minutes of regular and special Board meetings; assisting the Board President in preparation of the agenda; and maintaining the records of the Board’s actions.

PROSTATE CANCER INFORMATION & SUPPORT GROUP MEETING - The Amador County Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday May 12, 2015 starting at 6:00 pm. The location is Sutter Amador Hospital in the Oakview Conference Room on the second floor.
The group was formed to support men and their families and others who wish to know more about Prostate Cancer. Meetings are open to all and include men who have recovered from Prostate Cancer as well as those recently diagnosed, and those in treatment. The types of treatments range in scope from taking a watchful waiting active surveillance approach to radiation or surgery. Periodically meetings offer DVDs  and updates on research.

SUTTER CREEK ICE CREAM EMPORIUM DINNER - After a long Hiatus, the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium is hosting a dinner on Saturday, May 16 in Conjunction with the Mother Lode Ragtime Society's bi-monthly meeting. Come enjoy hearty food and listen to some great music. And ICE CREAM! The music will start at 7:00 and go until 10:00. Come early for dinner and then sit for a while and hear the sounds of Ragtime and medleys from the twenties. I will also be singing a few popular ballads of the day as well.

MOTHER LODE RAGTIME SOCIETY - The next meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium, 7:00 - 9:30 p.m..  Tom Brier will be on hand to provide lots of toe-tapping music; We're hoping that Elliott Adams, Nick Arteaga, and Kylan deGhetaldi might show up as well. 2ND ANNUAL WILSON BURNS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT will be held at Castle Oaks Golf Course on Friday, May 22. All of the proceeds from this tournament go to support local schools and teachers. The event honors the memory of a valued member of the Volcano Amador Masonic Lodge and was a unqualified success last year. The tournament starts at 8AM and entry includes lunch, range balls, and a chance for prizes. $95 per player. Includes lunch and drive balls. AMADOR COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE is holding a yard sale on "Trash to Treasures" weekend, May 23rd and 24th at 17 Main Street, Sutter Creek.  The proceeds from the yard sale will go to the local Democratic Party to keep our office open, the Interfaith Food Bank and Victory Village.

FREE YOGA EVENT RETURNS TO JACKSON! On Saturday, May 23, local yoga enthusiasts will present a FREE opportunity for all ages to try a gentle yoga session, outdoors in Detert Park with lovely live classical music.  All levels are welcome, even if you’ve never done yoga before.  No pre-registration is required – check in starting at 9:15am. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water and a mat if you have one. If not, bring a large towel or two. CELEBRATE SPRING! - Operation Care presents "Celebrate Spring" Saturday, May 30 at Sierra Ridge Winery. Festivities include food, raffle and live music by The Box Music Family. Doors open at 6 p.m. Food and music last until 10 p.m. Tickets are $55 per person, which includes $10 in free raffle tickets. Proceeds benefit Operation Care's Fresh Start program to provide financial assistance to help survivors of domestic violence transition from the safehouse into their own safe, violence-free housing. Operation Care is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization providing domestic violence and sexual assault support services, crisis intervention and education in Amador County. The group is supported through Federal and State grants which require matching funds in order to continue.    Events such as "Celebrate Spring" keep their doors open.

THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI Amador) - The Amador County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, May 26th in the Meadow Conference Room at the Sutter Amador Hospital Outpatient Facility in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30pm. From 6:45 to 8:00 pm we will conduct a confidential Support Group for family members and caregivers of those with mental illnesses.  For information call NAMI Amador (at ATCAA) 209-223-1485 Ex. 266.


CONGRESSMAN McCLINTOCK TO VISIT AMADOR LEARNING CENTERS ON THURSDAY MAY 28 -  Itinerary for May 28 for US Congressman Tom McClintock visit to Amador Learning Centers:


  • First Meeting will be at 2:00 PM at the Amador Community College Foundation (ACCF) Learning Center 10877 Conductor Blvd. Suite 700, Sutter Creek where the Congressman will receive a tour of our web based, college class and mentoring services.
  • We will then reconvene at a second venue about a mile away at the Amador County Transportation Center 117 Valley View Way, Sutter Creek with a demonstration of our fully interactive college classes using Interactive Television (ITV) technology from Shasta College. The tour will be conducted by Mr. John Plasse one of our Amador County Board of Supervisors. ACCF Board members will also be present to answer any question the Congressman may have. The tours will conclude at 3:30 PM.

AMADOR HIGH VOLLEYBALL “UNSTOMPABLE” 3-ON-3 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT- Sunday, May 31 at 9AM. Save the date and join us for the 1st Unstompable 3-on-3 Tournament. This is a FUNDRAISER for the Amador High School Volleyball Program. This is a co-ed tournament with 3 different divisions of play. $30 in advance/$40 day of.

AMADOR FLYFISHERS, a local flyfishing club is offering a course on the ins and outs of fly fishing. Classes will be held on Sat & Sun, June 13th &14 from 9:00am – 4pm at the HUB, 206B Main St. Jackson. A fishing trip is scheduled for June 27th. The time and location to be announced.   Learn what fly fishing is about.  Find out the importance of Bugs and their life cycle.  Learn where to find fish and special regulations. You’ll be taught casting techniques and how to use your equipment. WESTERN MINING ANTIQUE COLLECTOR’S SHOW - Sat June 20 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Sutter Creek Auditorium. If you are a collector of mining artifacts or simply interested in California’s gold mining history, you won’t want to miss the Western Mining Antique Show scheduled for mid-June in the historic town of Sutter Creek where mining artifact collectors from throughout the state will gather to show and sell artifacts from California’s rich gold-mining era.
Scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at the Sutter Creek Auditorium, located at 71 Main Street in downtown Sutter Creek, the show provides the opportunity for mining collectors to meet, sell, and buy authentic mining artifacts and collectibles. Items such as miner’s candle sticks, carbide lamps, picks, shovels, and vintage artifacts from the state’s mining history will be on display and for sale. Large items such as ore carts and buckets and other tools of the miner’s trade will be part of the show.

FAITH ALIVE SUMMER DAY CAMP - June 29 to July 3. This is the third year we for this wonderful camp. Four young counselors come from Mt. Cross Ministries with a full curriculum, materials, and enthusiasm. Faith provides the facilities and our beautiful wooded property with trails, grinding rocks and labyrinth. We also provide all the coordination and volunteers. Everyone has a fabulous time -- the kids, the counselors, and we old folks at the church! If you have kids or grandkids, sign them up! Enrollment is limited to 30, so you need to act quickly. We are also looking for high school kids to serve as junior counselors (a great, fun way to earn community service hours!). SALSA DANCE CLASS for Men and Women. Salsa is a type of music and dance of Hispanic origin.  Salsa Music is based on Cuban music.  Salsa is a dance that has easy steps to pick up.  So the time it takes you to learn your first few steps and be able to dance Salsa is far, far shorter that you might think.This class is taught by Amel Tafsout who studied Salsa and Afro Cuban dances in Havana, Cuba.  Classes are on Wednesday evenings,April   29 – May 27, from 7 – 8pm, at the HUB  206B Main St. Jackson. AMADOR FLYFISHERS, a local flyfishing club is offering a course on the ins and outs of fly fishing. Classes will be held on Sat & Sun, June 13th &14 from 9:00am – 4pm at the HUB, 206B Main St. Jackson. A fishing trip is scheduled for June 27th. The time and location to be announced.   Learn what fly fishing is about.  Find out the importance of Bugs and their life cycle.  Learn where to find fish and special regulations. You’ll be taught casting techniques and how to use your equipment. DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month.  When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day.  Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by. Many will say it is like stepping back in time. Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
  It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents.  Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.

DO YOU HAVE STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS laying around your house, waiting to be recycled? Then please bring them on down to the Busi Parking lot in Jackson behind Mel's. The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County.
