"I never thought I would get into to this fun DOCK DIVING sport - and then I got a Lab and Amador County got a regulation size dock diving pool!
In preparation for our introduction to Dock Diving I started introducing my Lab at 9 months this Spring to a stream, then a pool with steps, then my pool with a ramp into and ladder out of it, and then the full size dock diving pool. At first he was hesitant - though I went slowly and now he is diving at about 11 feet from the 2 foot high dock. At one year of age he will be going to his first NADD competition this month!
I have now started working with 2 of my other dogs (my Border Collie loves it even more than herding - WOW!) as well as quite a few folks in private lessons. It is really fun and satisfying to build a dog's confidence step by step to try something new. At first Miles, my Border Collie who liked swimming in lakes, wouldn't even put his paw into my pool . . . and now he is flying into the big pool! Many dogs who are comfortable going into a lake to swim, need some guidance their first few times going into a pool.
I am also teaching small group classes up to 4 dogs at Gold Country Pet Resort in Ione.  My next series starts Sept 15 - my August series is FULL! :-)  For more info and a video and some other pics please visit:"

Classes are inexpensive, on all levels as well as medical Spanish on two levels, and take place in various locations, generally once a week. For further information contact or call 223-3322.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - It's getting close to that time again.  We are looking for a few good men and women (okay, maybe more than a few) to volunteer their time and talents for the upcoming Great Sutter Creek Chili Cook-Off and Car Show, October 12.  This is one of the major fundraisers this year for the Sutter Creek Business and Professional Association.
Just a little bit of your time will go a long way.
Thanks in advance for your support! Contact Linda, Creeky Cupboard 267-9314

CASA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - She was only 11 years old and already thinking about how she could make sure her little sister would be taken care of. Their parents were no longer in the picture and probably would not be back in the community for quite a while. With no close relatives and new to the area, her support system was non-existent. Hurt and frightened for herself, she wondered who would ever be her friend and mentor. This case had a happy ending because of the work of the CASA volunteer assigned to their case.
he Court Appointed Special Advocate program provides trained volunteers to work with children just like her. They represent the stable, consistent friend, mentor, and advocate that is so critically important for children under the supervision of the Juvenile Court. With a CASA advocate children have that support which allows them to grow and thrive under difficult family circumstances. More volunteers are needed for this program and will be welcomed at our next training program planned for October. For more information please call John at 418-4845.

NOTICE: OPENINGS AT LOCKWOOD FPD - The Lockwood Fire Protection District has three open positions: Board Director: One opening. Secretary to the Board of Directors: One opening. The Secretary transcribes minutes for all meetings held by the Board of Directors.  Some filing is required and a modest stipend is provided.  Applicant is not required to reside within the district. This position will remain open until filled.
Treasurer: One opening. This position requires knowledge of Quick Books, audit preparation, and managing the finances for the district. Applicant must be bonded or able to become bonded.  A modest stipend is provided. This position will remain open until filled.
If interested, please submit a resume with references to LFPD, P.O. Box 221, Volcano, CA 95689 or e-mail If you have questions, please contact Jean-Paul Soares, President of the Board of Directors, at 209-296-7973.

DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month.  When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day.  Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by.  Many will say it is like stepping back in time.  Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often.  Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents.  Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.
Still reaching out for other ideas to encourage folks to volunteer time. If you have any ideas please forward to me at
Rosemary Fields
