FUNDRAISER: LOCALS LOSE HOME IN SAND FIRE - For our fellow merchants who aren't aware, Ralph and Robin Cova, from On Purpose, lost their home in the Sand Fire. They had very little time to gather their possessions and lost nearly everything. For those who have asked how to help, shopping in their store or sending shoppers their way would be very encouraging. Their employees have also set up a book to sign to let them know we are all thinking of them during this difficult time. In addition, an account in their names has been setup at BBVA Compass, (in the Safeway shopping center.)
For all the victims of the Sand Fire, a fundraiser has been organized for September 7th at the Plymouth Hotel. Contact Sarah Visser at On Purpose, or check out the Sand Fire-Fundraiser & Social page on Facebook for more details.
Thanks for spreading the word!

DOCK DIVING CLASSES FOR DOGS!
"I never thought I would get into to this fun DOCK DIVING sport - and then I got a Lab and Amador County got a regulation size dock diving pool!
In preparation for our introduction to Dock Diving I started introducing my Lab at 9 months this Spring to a stream, then a pool with steps, then my pool with a ramp into and ladder out of it, and then the full size dock diving pool. At first he was hesitant - though I went slowly and now he is diving at about 11 feet from the 2 foot high dock. At one year of age he will be going to his first NADD competition this month!
I have now started working with 2 of my other dogs (my Border Collie loves it even more than herding - WOW!) as well as quite a few folks in private lessons. It is really fun and satisfying to build a dog's confidence step by step to try something new. At first Miles, my Border Collie who liked swimming in lakes, wouldn't even put his paw into my pool . . . and now he is flying into the big pool! Many dogs who are comfortable going into a lake to swim, need some guidance their first few times going into a pool.
I am also teaching small group classes up to 4 dogs at Gold Country Pet Resort in Ione. My next series starts Sept 15 - my August series is FULL! :-) For more info and a video and some other pics please visit: http://dog-b-good.com/DockDivingClasses.html"

The Boy Scout Troops of Amador County are collecting your newspaper donations and accept on an on-going basis. The large cargo container sits at the very back of the parking lot. There should be pallets next to the dumpster, where everyone can leave their stacks. Anyone can drop off their newspapers 7 days a week, day or night. We ask that you only donate actual newspapers, no glossy advertising, magazines or books. All proceeds directly benefit the various Troops in Amador County. DOCENTS NEEDED for Monteverde Museum. Presently, the museum is only opened two days out of each month. When the museum is opened we usually have 20 plus visitors a day. Local folks, visitors, in state and out of state are always happy to be able to go inside the store and experience the feeling of days gone by. Many will say it is like stepping back in time. Many will also say, they have been through Sutter Creek before and to their dismay the store has been closed.
It would be beneficial for Sutter Creek if the museum would be opened more often. Unfortunately, we have a shortage of docents. Presently, we have only 4 active docents to open the museum. We really need people to volunteer to just have the doors open to the public. If you know of anyone who has free time to do possibly one day a month, or even a few hours one day a month, please let us know.
Still reaching out for other ideas to encourage folks to volunteer time. If you have any ideas please forward to me at rkf48@aol.com

VIA OPERATION CARE: SCAM ALERT
We have just learned that someone is going door to door asking for donations for Operation Care. WE DO NOT DO THIS AND ARE NOT DOING THIS. If someone comes to your home asking for a donation, please get a good description and report them to the police.
Some people will stoop pretty low to rip someone off. I hope they don’t come to your home. Please share if you can.
If you did want to help operation Care, we take donations by mail or in person at our offices listed below. Never door to door.
Thank you,

VIA CITIZEN REPORT: SCAM ALERT (provided by the Amador Commission on Aging)
Two seniors (one in Sutter Creek, one in Ione) received phone calls from someone saying that they were from Amador County Courts (and the one senior who has caller ID said that the number did show "Amador County" ) The caller informed the senior that they had "ignored" two jury summons and they were going to be arrested and booked immediately unless they paid $900 with a credit card immediately. One of the seniors challenged the caller, who persisted in telling her that she would be arrested. When the senior heard children in the background and asked about it. When the caller denied there were any children, the senior hung up. The caller immediately called back and began again. The senior hung up and called the sheriff.
Unfortunately the other senior did pay the $900...but then reported it to the Sheriff.
Please spread the word on this latest scam. According to the Sheriff's deputy, apparently someone has created an app that allows the caller to fool the caller ID system.
VIA CITIZEN REPORT: SCAM ALERT
VIA CITIZEN REPORT: SCAM ALERT
1."I am getting the Microsoft computer/foreign caller calling at all hours of the night– 11:30 pm, 11 pm, and dinner time. She tells me she’s calling about a Microsoft problem and is my computer on. I’ve heard of this one, so I’ve either said a few choice words and hung up, or told her I was reporting her to the FBI and she hung up. Do you know any way of getting rid of her calls, besides changing my number, which I’m not doing?? I’ve had several other calls at those times and don’t answer the phone – the caller hangs up, so I assume it’s her."
2. "The white van is roaming around again. This time, one of our volunteers told me a white van was seen driving around the Amador Pines /Pioneer neighborhoods that appear to be casing the houses, and I understand there have been some robberies around there. And gas has been stolen out of cars."
3. "The same person told me about a blue pick-up truck with plywood panels on the sides – these guys say they’re there to help you move stuff while casing your home and property."
SCAM ALERT: Walmart/Target Gift Card
Please pass this along to anyone you think might be at risk - it doesn't just affect seniors
One of our seniors called me today with the following info:
- She got a postcard notifying her that she had been given a $100 gift card to Walmart or Target. The card had a "personal identification number" on it and an "800" number to call.
- Although she knew it was a scam, she was curious and called; she got a gentleman who was apparently calling from somewhere else in the world and who used her name and congratulated her.
- He told her that there was a $7.48 "processing" fee for so they could send her the gift card and he "just needed (her) credit card information to process the fee.
- She (being one of our savvy seniors) told him there was no way in "h*ll" she was giving him her credit card number and guess what??? He hung up on her!
Yay! Smart seniors of Amador! HOWEVER this is a scam that is going to target lots of people - like perhaps many people who have shopped at Target and Walmart and had their names/addresses hacked...and I am afraid that some of them are not going to be so bright as Hazel was.
So please get the word out about this however you can.Laurie Webb
