PROSTRATE CANCER INFORMATION & SUPPORT GROUP MEETING - Prostate
The Amador County Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 starting at 6:00 pm. The location is Sutter Amador Hospital in the Oakview Conference Room on the second floor. The group was formed to support men and their families and others who wishes to know more about Prostate Cancer. Meetings are open to all and includes men who have recovered from Prostate Cancer as well as those recently diagnosed, and those in treatment. The types of treatments range in scope from taking a watchful waiting active surveillance approach to radiation or surgery. Periodically meetings offer guest speakers, videos and updates on research. The meetings have information with regards to nutrition and prostate cancer. We encourage anyone who wants to learn more about cancer and nutrition to attend. AMADOR COUNTY WOMEN'S NETWORK (ACWN) will hold its monthly luncheon meeting Wednesday, February 26th at Thomi's in Jackson.  This month's guest speaker will be Sue Allred, who will be teaching us about the 5 Love Languages and how we can apply them to personal and business relationships.  We make it fun to learn about local women in business.
The meeting will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Luncheon cost is $16. SPEAKEAZY JAZZ ORCHESTRA - Re-appearing on February 23rd at 2pm the Amador Senior Center in Jackson will be the Speakeazy Jazz Orchestra, a 9-piece dance band playing authentic arrangements from the 1920’s and 1930’s (The “Great Gatsby Era”), using original dance band instrumentation. The band will feature vocalists Arlene White and Eric Johnson.  New tunes added to the repertoire are “Goodnight Sweetheart”, “To Each His Own”, “Hoop Dee Do”, and “You’re Driving Me Crazy”.
The Orchestra (SJO)  appeared last year at Ironstone Vineyard’s Concours d’ Elegance; it has been featured at the Dante Club in Sacramento (an annual special invitation), and made special appearance at the Berkeley City Club.
There is a $5 admission charge at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Amador Senior Center. There will be cookies and coffee for your enjoyment. The Senior Center has great parking and access! See you Sunday Feb. 23rd for a fun afternoon and set your calendars back to the 1920’s! Classic cars and authentic attire are always welcome!

WORKSHOP: RESOURCES FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE - If you, or someone you know, are looking for resources to help attain a brighter future, there is going to be an outreach workshop for this purpose. It will be held on Wednesday February 12th from 3PM to 5PM at the Margaret Dalton Children’s Center, 975 Broadway in Jackson. During the first hour of the workshop, representatives from established agencies in Amador County will be speaking about what services they provide. Topics covered will include health services, housing assistance, employment opportunities, and nutritional programs. During the second hour of the workshop, tables will be set up so that attendees can speak directly to the representatives about individual needs and concerns. Moderator for the program will be Danise Kaps from TLC.
This program is being put on by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) as an outreach to women in our community. There is no cost to attend the workshop and refreshments will be served. Child care will be provided, and there will be a drawing for a $50 grocery gift card.
Please also spread word about this opportunity to your women friends or family members who could profit from learning first hand about valuable resources already in our county, and how they can be accessed. If you have questions call: (209) 419-0755.

ACART (Amador County Animal Response Team) volunteers train to execute a shelter plan for animals in the event of a declared disaster in Amador County. Become a member and help those whose lives have been turned upside down by a fire, flood or other disaster. You are welcome to attend our next meeting Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Amador County Animal Control, 12340 Airport Rd. JacksonCA . Training this month will be Cat Handling. AMADOR COUNTY ARTISTS ASSOCIATION - The next meeting of the ACAA will be February 12, at 7 p.m., in the Senior Center229 New York Ranch RoadJackson.  The program for February will consist of a presentation on the many features of the ACAA website, to demonstrate the power of the website in bringing recognition to local artists.  ACAA meets each month on the second Wednesday. The public is invited and new members are encouraged.  For more information visit amadorcountyartists.org.

FREE GARDENING CLASS: FRUIT TREE GRAFTING & STARTHISTLE CONTROL – Sat Feb 15 from 9AM-12 Noon at the Amador County GSA Building, 12200-B Airport Road in Martell.  Join Amador County Master Gardeners for a free class covering fruit tree grafting and Star Thistle control. Star thistle control is a year round task. Learn what should be done about this awful weed this time of the year. We will also hold a “hands-on” clinic covering grafting techniques for home gardeners. Whip, tongue and cleft grafts will be demonstrated and practiced; bud grafts will be discussed. A variety of fruit tree scions will be available. Open to the public! Prince Mr. Kenneth Michael McDonnell will take his Princess Ms. Michelle Bowers Cagle to be his Wife during this unique and exquisite ceremony with a full reception following! Mr. McDonnell has been an active member of Amador County, and has resided in the County for over 17 years and Ms. Cagle, originally from Sacramento, has resided here for 3 years and is an active member of Jazzercise in Sutter Creek and is well known by many! AMADOR FLYFISHERS (AFF) welcomes Ernie Gulley on Tuesday February 18 in the Amador County Administration Center at 810 Court Street, Jackson. A fly-tying demonstration will begin at 6:00pm, followed by our 7:00pm general meeting and Ernie's presentation, "Fly Fishing Crowley Lake". Ernie is well-known in southern California as one of the principal fly-tyers and class instructors for stillwater tactics. He is a decorated winner of past Crowley Lake flyfishing tournaments and now guides in the Eastern Sierra, specializing in the stillwater flyfishing of Crowley Lake, Bridgeport Reservoir, Big Bear Lake, and Lake Silverwood. Amador Flyfishers convenes the third Tuesday of each month to meet popular flyfishing guest speakers, share fishing experiences, and support fishery conservation issues. 41st ANNUAL AAUW HOME TOUR: “JEWELS OF THE MOTHER LODE” – Historic Sutter Creek  on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 11am to 4pm. Featuring four homes and one inn. FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY  “SHOW & SHINE” CAR & VINTAGE AIRCRAFT SHOW – Sat May 31 at the Eagle’s Nest Airport in Ione, off of Ione Road. The show expects cars from throughout California and Nevada, and will feature vehicles in all categories from street rods to stock pre-1960, modified, foreign cars and more. Some trucks will also be on display.
Food, beverage and auto accessory vendors will be on site to accommodate all attendees. Amador County is known for its fine wines, and several vintners will be on-site for tasting.  A pancake breakfast will be served by the local Boy Scout Troop 477 from 7:00 to 10:30 AM. All proceeds from this breakfast will be donated to the Troop. For those with a sweet tooth, Boy Scout Troop 581 will be serving sundaes. Other food vendors will include a variety of tasty faire.
All proceeds will go to local youth organizations and the Interfaith Food Bank. General admission for the public will be $5.00 per car.
