SEAN RABE FAREWELL RECEPTION – Thurs Jan 9 from 4-6PM After years of loyal and dedicated service to Amador County and the City of Sutter Creek, Sean Rabe,  Sutter Creek City Manager, will be departing to accept the position of City Manager for the City of Colma.   We will be holding a farewell reception for Sean in The Cellar at the Hotel Sutter. Community members are invited to join the Sutter Creek City Council and staff, to wish Sean a fond good-bye.

FAMILY CHILD CARE LICENSING ORIENTATION – Thurs Jan 9 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Do you love children? Are you willing to provide a safe, loving, high quality learning environment in your home? JACKSON WOMEN’S CLUB – Fri Jan 10 at 11:30 AM at 10 Court Street (Native Sons Bldg). Sign-ins begin at 11:30 followed by lunch at 12 ($7), our speaker and a business meeting. Our speaker will be Patricia Noll RN, L.AC.  Patricia is well known in the Jackson area and has 20 years of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.  AND, she is a wonderful person.  She has treated both Ladessa and I.  We hope you can make it to this meeting.  Bring a friend!

THE AMADOR BONSAI SOCIETY will hold its next meeting on Saturday, January 11 at 9AM the Senior Center in Jackson. Amador County Master Gardeners will offer BASICS OF FOOTHILL GARDENING to all who wish to improve their gardening knowledge and techniques. This class will offer something for everyone:  newcomers to the foothills, beginning gardeners and seasoned veterans.  Learn more about your garden environment.  Bring your questions about what grows here and how to grow it. We will share our gardening experiences with native landscape, seasonal color, year-round vegetable gardening, all the while supporting and encouraging wildlife.  This is a FREE class! MOTHER LODE RAGTIME SOCIETY is scheduled to meet on January 11, 2014 at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium - 7:00 - 9:30 p.m..  Tom Brier will be on hand to provide lots of toe-tapping music; but as always, all who would like to play are welcome. Other news--start the new year right by enjoying a piano concert featuring the ever popular Frederick Hodges. Sunday, January 19, 2 p.m. at the home of John Ulrich in El Sobrante.  Tickets $25/person. DEVELOPING & OPERATING A SMALL SCALE COMMERCIAL KITCHEN –Join Farms of Amador on Saturday, January 11th from 5:30 to 8 pm for a potluck gathering at the Amador City Community Hall to learn about developing and operating a small scale commercial kitchen.  Professional caterers Lucy Spangler Gore and Bill Gore will share their experience in building and operating a small scale commercial kitchen in Amador Co.  Farms of Amador is excited to present this topic, the development of which will allow farmers to process their products in order to add value and increase customer appeal.  This will also be an opportunity to network with the region's food producers, chefs and consumers interested in quality regional foods.  Cost of the event is $10 for those who bring a pot-luck dish to share and $15 for those who come without a dish.  Please bring your own place setting in an effort to reduce waste.

BUILDING LITERACY THROUGH STORYTELLING & CHILDREN’S BOOKS – Thurs Jan 16 from  6:00 – 8:00 pm. Join us for a fun evening where you will gain more of an understanding of language and literacy, and will learn ways to foster language and literacy in your programs, through storytelling and children’s books! INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMY: Folsom Lake College will be offering an Introduction to Astronomy class in the Spring Semester from January 18 until May 21, 2014. This class is in a  Interactive Television (ITV) format which means the instructor and students will interact and view each other on a real-time basis. Class sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:20 pm (two sessions per week). This is class is worth 3 semester credits and is taught by Bob Laurent. The class will be given at the Amador County Transit Center in Sutter Hill - 117 Valley View Way, Sutter Creek, CA 95685. AMADOR FLYFISHERS (AFF) welcomes Greg Vinci on Tuesday January 21 in the Amador County Administration Center at 810 Court Street, Jackson. Greg will demonstrate fly-tying techniques beginning at 6:00pm, followed by our 7:00pm general meeting and Greg's presentation, "Winter Steelhead on the American River". Sacramento-based Greg Vinci is a long-time fly-fishing author and outdoor photographer, known for his development of "Insta-Set Indicators" and innovative fly patterns such as the X-Ray Caddis and Depth Charge Bird's Nest. He is also the driving force behind www.California-FlyFishing.com, a portal to California’s most popular waters. Amador Flyfishers convenes the third Tuesday of each month to meet popular flyfishing guest speakers, share fishing experiences, and support fishery conservation issues. NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, January 28th in the Multi- conference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The guest  speaker for the meeting will be Terry Sanders, the Veterans Services Officer for Amador  County. CHINA PAINTING WITH MARGARET ANWAY – Margaret Anway has decades of experience painting, as well as teaching china and glass painting. She has been published in “The China Decorator” magazine, and is happy teaching beginning artists as well as professional, and is flexible to your needs.

LADIES CAR CARE CLINIC & BRUNCH – Sat Jan 18 at 10AM at Calvary Chapel in Pine Grove. This is a great time to grab your girlfriends and join our One-Of-A-Kind event! You will learn about cars and what you CAN do to keep your car or truck running dependably. Admission to event is FREE*
We will Learn How to:
- Identify warning lights on the dash
- Check your engine oil and other fluids
- Check and adjust tire pressure
- Change a flat tire.
Plus much more! Our volunteer mechanics will also make time to show you around your own vehicle and answer any specific questions you may have. So if you’ve always wanted to know what makes your vehicle tick, this is the event for you! This is also a great opportunity for young ladies just starting to drive to learn as well, so if you have daughters – reserve a spot for them too.
The Car Care Clinic is FREE; however, we encourage everyone to bring a mealtime item for the potluck brunch (a girl’s got to eat!!).
