"I wanted to alert you to a current scam I received yesterday. A phone call stating they are collecting for Amador's Clothes for Children. This scam piggybacks at the same time our "Christmas to Remember" which will start this week. I had received the same request last year with different phrasing but the same format."
"Please let everyone know that Christmas to Remember DOES NOT ASK FOR donations by phone. If they wish to donate, take a drive this Wednesday and Thursday through Sutter Creek or Jackson by Cost Less Foods or Martell at Strings or Pine Grove Plymouth or Ione All locations will accept cash or checks, credit cards accepted at KVGC at 163 Main Street Jackson or call 223-1340 to contributed by credit card

HILLBILLY CHANUKAH CELEBRATION - The Mother Lode Jewish Community (MLJC) will be holding its annual Chanukah party on Friday, December 6th  at 6 p.m. in Murphys, CA.  This is a casual, fun evening for families and adults of all ages.  If you wish to attend, please call ahead for directions and to reserve your place, as space is limited.  There is no charge, but we ask everyone to bring a potluck dish to share.  Volunteers are also needed to help set up and clean up.  You are also welcome to bring a menorah if you would like to light your own candles.

AMADOR MASTER GARDENERS PRESENTS: “FRUIT TREE CULTURE” – Sat Dec 7 from 9AM-12PM at Amador Master Gardeners at the Ag Building, 12200-B Airport Road in Jackson. Have you ordered, purchased, or do you plan to plant bare root fruit trees, vegetables or berries this year?  This FREE class will provide the information you need to get them off to a great start and keep them healthy.  Bare root plants can be ordered or purchased at your local nursery.  This is a wonderful way to save money.
Soil preparation, fertilizers, planting method and depth, initial pruning, and staking of fruit trees will be covered.  In addition, protecting the trunk, dormant spraying, spring and summer pruning, everything you should know to grow strong and healthy trees.
Information on bare root berries, Jerusalem artichoke, rhubarb, asparagus and roses will be presented as well as proper fertilization and care.

FARMS OF AMADOR “DEVELOPING AND OPERATION A COMMERCIAL KITCHEN” – Sat Dec 7 from 5:30-8PM. Amador City Community Hall, 14531 East School St., Amador City.  Join Farms of Amador on Saturday, December 7th from 5:30 to 8 pm for a potluck gathering at the Amador City Community Hall to learn about developing and operating a small scale commercial kitchen.  Professional caterers Lucy Spangler Gore and Bill Gore will share their experience in building and operating a small scale commercial kitchen in Amador Co.  Farms of Amador is excited to present this topic, the development of which will allow farmers to process their products in order to add value and increase customer appeal.  This will also be an opportunity to network with the region's food producers, chefs and consumers interested in quality regional foods.  Cost of the event is $10 for those who bring a pot-luck dish to share and $15 for those who come without a dish.  Please bring your own place setting in an effort to reduce waste.

“PAINT BY GLASS” CLASS – Sat Dec 7 from 2-4:30PM at the American Legion Hall in Sutter Hill. Can you sip from a wine glass while holding a paintbrush? If so, you can paint! Artist/instructor Judy Day will show step-by-step how to paint a local wine country landscape on canvas, while painters enjoy local wines and hors d’oeuvres at a “Paint by the Glass” workshop. Judy Day is a respected local art teacher, artist and children’s book illustrator. Her work reflects her love of the foothills and high Sierras and is displayed at the Sutter Creek Gallery.

CELEBRATE A VINTAGE COUNTRY CHRISTMAS IN AMADOR CITY - Saturday, December 7 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. downtown Amador City will bring on the holidays.  The town merchants decorate the town for the Christmas season with fresh pine garlands and Christmas lights hung from century old buildings.    
Amador City shops, a famous bakery, restaurants and a local winery tasting room welcome visitors ready for the holidays.
Throughout the day there will be an array of Christmas comestibles available in shops. Andrae’s Bakery offers an espresso bar, decadent baked goods, sandwiches, artisan breads and more. Visitors taste Sacramento craft beer on the porch overlooking the charming small town.  
Buffalo Chips Restaurant renders handmade pies, an old-fashioned soda fountain and great burgers.  After the town tree lighting they feature their Traditional Polenta Dinner served with Italian chicken sausage and mixed greens, finished with bread pudding and hot buttered rum sauce.  ($13.95)
The Imperial Hotel provides a historic, 1949 era bar, California wine country meals, and lodging. 
Feist Wines is found in the center of block and is housed in an old saloon.  They offer wine tasting, artisan cheese plates ($9) and their house band, The Allen Frank Band with winemaker, Tony Feist sittin’ in.  Their eclectic mix of rock, folk and the blues provides reason for a visit to Amador City.

8TH ANNUAL LAS POSADAS CANDLELIGHT WALK – Sat Dec 7 at 6PM. an hour earlier than previous years.  Everyone is invited to participate in this community event sponsored by the Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, and Episcopal churches of Sutter Creek.
      The Walk begins on Spanish Street near the Immaculate Conception Church, where participants are given candles and programs.  They follow Mary on her mule, Joseph, shepherds  and angels, listen to the familiar Christmas story and sing carols.  Joseph knocks at the door of several places, seeking shelter without success.  The procession moves through beautifully decorated downtown Sutter Creek.  Finally, a stable is found in front of the Methodist Church.  Las Posadas ends with a beautiful solo, and everyone is invited into the Methodist Church hall for warm beverages and homemade cookies.  Do plan to be a part of this beautiful beginning of the Christmas season! 

AMADOR COUNTY CONCERT BAND PRESENTS: “THE SOUND OF MUSIC” and holiday favorites. A free concert will be presented by the 48-member Amador County Concert Band under the direction of Steve Chambers and Irv Gidding on Sunday, December 8 at 3pm. The program will be held at the Community Church of Pine Grove, 14045 Ponderosa Way, Pine Grove. Featured music will be “The Sound of Music”, “Spirit of the Sequoia”, Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride”, “Holiday Homecoming” , and much more. The 90-minute program will conclude with refreshments….bring the entire family to this exciting concert! Join us for an enjoyable musical experience, and enjoy the spirited music! NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI). INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMY: Folsom Lake College will be offering an Introduction to Astronomy class in the Spring Semester from January 18 until May 21, 2014. This class is in a  Interactive Television (ITV) format which means the instructor and students will interact and view each other on a real-time basis. Class sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:20 pm (two sessions per week). This is class is worth 3 semester credits and is taught by Bob Laurent. The class will be given at the Amador County Transit Center in Sutter Hill - 117 Valley View Way, Sutter Creek, CA 95685. INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMY: Folsom Lake College will be offering an Introduction to Astronomy class in the Spring Semester from January 18 until May 21, 2014. This class is in a  Interactive Television (ITV) format which means the instructor and students will interact and view each other on a real-time basis. Class sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:20 pm (two sessions per week). This is class is worth 3 semester credits and is taught by Bob Laurent. The class will be given at the Amador County Transit Center in Sutter Hill - 117 Valley View Way, Sutter Creek, CA 95685.
