BURNING STILL RESTRICTED - Camino –  As fall arrives with a couple thunderstorms across the unit, CAL FIRE is reminding everyone that there is still a burn ban in effect for all State Responsibility Areas of Amador County, on the west slope of El Dorado County and Sacramento County.  “It would take only a few days of warm, windy weather for us to be chasing wildland fires around like we did last year.  The Sand Fire on October 4th threatened the Sandridge/Bucks Bar/Grizzly Flat area and if had not been for an aggressive use of air craft, homes may have burned and lives could have been endangered.  Less than two weeks after that, residents in the Pioneer area of Amador county also faced the threat of a wildland fire burning in the Little Mill Creek and Tiger Creek area” says Amador-El Dorado-Sacramento Unit Chief Kelly Keenan.  “Historically the worst fires in California occur in the fall months.  We can’t let our guard down just because the temperatures are cooler in the morning and a few small storms have moved through the area.  We need to see a series of significant storms drop measurable amounts of precipitation before we lift the current burning restrictions” adds Chief Keenan.

EACH MIND MATTERS! NAMI Amador is very fortunate to be awarded a grant for rural counties, from the California Mental Health Services Authority and funded by the Mental Health Services Act.  With this funding, NAMI Amador and Amador County Behavioral Health Services will be hosting two very special events during Mental Illness Awareness Week, on October 6 & 10.  These are open to everyone at no charge. We hope you can join with friends and neighbors and attend as we begin an important conversation about mental health in Amador County.   We appreciate the partnership of Amador Behavioral Health, whose commitment to wellness in our community is invaluable in making this grant possible.
Our first event, a casual Anti-Stigma Stroll, will take place Sunday, October 6th at 4:00 pm beginning at First 5 on Broadway, around Sutter Amador Hospital, and ending back at First 5 with refreshments.  On Thursday, October 10th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Thomi’s Ballroom on Highway 49 in Jackson we will host a community meeting with a light buffet dinner.
This event will feature key segments from the PBS documentary, A New State of Mind, first-hand accounts of local experiences with mental illness, and a discussion of how mental health is viewed in our community. For those interested in learning about signs and symptoms of mental illness, and how to help, a brief introduction to Mental Health First Aid will be provided, along with an overview of the programs offered by NAMI Amador.
