Camino – The residents of the Amador-El
Dorado-Sacramento Unit of CAL FIRE are seeing hazy skies and may be smelling
smoke throughout the area due to fire activity outside the unit. Southern
winds are pushing smoke into our area from the Aspen Fire in Fresno County
which is located 7 miles northwest of Big Creek on the Sierra National Forest.
This fire was reported to be over 14,147 acres and only 20% contained as of
this morning. There are also several fires in the state of Oregon which are sending
smoke from the north into our local area.

Jug Bands from as far away Japan have joined in the
festivities. This humble, intimate small town festival has unexpectedly set off
the fourth great national revival of jug band music. Jug band music has,
for over a hundred years, served as an incubator for blues, for ragtime and for
jazz. Along with the Jugfest, fine traditional handmade American Folk Art and
Crafts will be displayed under the trees surrounding the historic 1859 Sutter
Creek Inn. There will be a children’s workshop in the Junk Yard Play Space from
1:30 to 5:30.
Bryn & Megan of Liquor Cake will help young and old make and play your own
instruments from found objects and household items and Rick and Heidi of 5 Cent
Coffee, make a diddley-bow and a homemade kazoo. It’s a big, fun, entertaining
(and even educational) musical celebration, so you’re invited to come early and
stay late!

Creek Farmers Market by 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 31st. The judges will announce their favorites at
10:30 AM. The largest tomato will
receive a special award. Join us for the public tasting and you will have the
fun of tasting all kinds of tomatoes, from tiny grape-size tomatoes to giants
the size of grapefruits, and a variety of colors, including yellow, orange,

15th ANNUAL RAGTIME FESTIVAL will be jumping again from August
9th – 11th, 2013. The feel good music will fill the air at five, practically
nonstop venues of solos, duos and groups all presenting the many moods of
ragtime, plus all the hilarity and good music spilling on into the “After
Hours” sessions where there is always a surprise player or two. Travel back in
time and enjoy the “feel Good” music of Ragtime. This is a festival not to be

BAND A.I.D.E – Sat Aug 17. A very special event, the Band
A.I.D.E. (Awesome Instrument Drive Extravaganza) Kick-Off Event: “Pep Band on
the Ridge”.
Since the numbers in the Bands all across the district have grown recently, the District has run out of instruments to loan. So, the Band Program is holding an instrument donation drive sponsored by the Amador Community Foundation. The Kickoff event is a fun afternoon/evening of food and music at the Amador Ridge Shopping Plaza. From 3:00-9:00 PM Dickey’s, Roundtable, Oko Sushi, Yogurt Your Way and Jamba Juice will donate 10% of their sales to the Band A.I.D.E. project. At 6:30 PM, the combined high school bands will perform a short pep band concert at the Plaza. You can bring an instrument and or money to donate to the drive, or just eat at the restaurants and help out that way. Going out to eat at your favorite Amador Ridge restaurant, hearing the pep bands and helping put an instrument into the hands of a student – what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

From 3:00-9:00 PM Dickey’s, Roundtable, Oko Sushi, Yogurt Your Way and Jamba Juice will donate 10% of their sales to the Band A.I.D.E. project. At 6:30 PM, the combined high school bands will perform a short pep band concert at the Plaza. You can bring an instrument and or money to donate to the drive, or just eat at the restaurants and help out that way. Going out to eat at your favorite Amador Ridge restaurant, hearing the pep bands and helping put an instrument into the hands of a student – what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
The conclusion of the Band A.I.D.E. Instrument Drive is being
held in conjunction with the Highway 49 Americana Music Festival on September
7th sponsored by KVGC Radio. Details are on the attached flyer and you can find
more information by searching for it online or on Facebook. If you like Blues
& Rock n Roll, then this is gonna be a killer festival!
