“CORKS FOR CRITTERS” - The Volcano Union Pub is taking reservations for a special fundraising event on Thursday, June 22, 5-8 pm.

The $10 corkage fee for each bottle of wine you bring will be donated to “The Rusty Fund”, a private account founded and managed by volunteers at Amador County Animal Control and Adoption Center. The fund makes extra resources readily available for medical procedures, treatments and supplies that the budgets of the county and APAL can't cover.

Come to the Pub, enjoy great food and your favorite wine, participate in a first-rate raffle, and help our shelter animals-all in one fun evening!

BIG BAND MUSIC - Sunday, June 25 at 2pm at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Rd, Jackson. Big Band music of the 1920’s through the 1960’s will be presented by the 11- piece Speakeazy Jazz Orchestra on June 25th at 2pm using original dance band instrumentation and sheet music. The band consists of 7 horns (saxes, clarinets, trumpets, and trombone) and 4 rhythm players (piano, banjo, bass, and drums), and features vocals from within the band. Audience may wish to sing along on most all of the familiar tunes!

The Band is celebrating its 7th year of existence and now has appeared at different venues all over Northern California. We have just been asked to submit an application to the world-famous Gilroy Garlic Festival for a possible appearance on their main Amphitheater Stage. The band will also be performing at Ironstone Vineyard’s Concours de Elegance in late September this year.

Open to all ages, there is a $5 donation request to help cover expenses of the event. There will be cookies and coffee for your enjoyment! Guests may also bring a favorite dessert to share as well and there will be a small dance area left open for those that wish to shake-a-leg. Doors open at 1:30pm, don’t miss the fun!

THE PROGRESSIVE WOMEN’S COMMITTEE meets on Thursday, July 6th, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at The Highway House (formerly Thomi’s) banquet room. The speaker will be Candidate for Congressional District 4, Regina Bateson. Reservations are required and may be made at sallytrestrail@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, July 4th (sooner if possible).

All those interested are welcome to attend. The buffet luncheon is $15.00. You may pay at the door. Cash (the exact amount is always appreciated) or personal check only.

If you make a reservation and cannot attend, Please call 267-0177 to cancel by noon on Wednesday, July 5th. If you have made a reservation and do not attend, you may be billed for the luncheon.

LOCKWOOD FPD BOARD POSITION OPEN - The Lockwood Fire Protection District has an opening on the Board of Directors. The applicant must live within the District served by the Lockwood Fire Protection District. This is a volunteer position and generally requires 4-12 hours per month or more depending on your willingness to contribute time and energy. The board meets once a month on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 PM. The meetings usually last for 2 hours. Roberts Rules of Order and the Brown Act govern and regulate our meetings.

If you are interested in the Board Position please submit a letter of intent to the LFPD Board of Directors, P.O. Box 221, Volcano, CA 95689 or via electronic delivery to info@lockwoodfire.org . Letters must be received no later than Saturday, June 24, 2017, to be considered for appointment at the June 26, 2017 Board of Directors regular meeting. MASTER GARDENERS PRESENT: CARE & USE OF HERBS FROM THE GARDEN - Spice up your flower or vegetable garden this year by adding a few useful herbs. There are many good reasons to plant herbs in your garden. Fresh and dried culinary herbs are handy to have for cooking and other types can be used as ornamental plants or for crafts. The UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County will be presenting a Public Education class, “Care and Use of Herbs from the Garden” on Saturday, June 24 from 9am-12 Noon. Master Gardeners will provide instruction on how to successfully grow herbs and then discuss the culinary aspects, as well as tips on the proper preservation of various herbs. They will also explain how to use herb plants as ornamentals to beautify your garden and attract beneficial insects. In addition, tips on using herbs as craft materials will be included. Hand-outs will be provided. This class is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. Classes are held in the GSA building at 12200-B Airport Rd, Jackson.

THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI Amador) is holding an affiliate meeting and support group on Tuesday, June 27 in the Meadow Conference Room at the Outpatient Building of Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. The rear doors of the Outpatient building will be open and there is parking available nearby.
Carla Fry, who has an MS in Counseling will be the speaker for the meeting. She will be talking about Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Panic Disorders.

Why not bring them to the "Kids in the Garden" Public Education class provided by the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County on Saturday, July 15 from 9am-Noon? Learn how to make and maintain your own worm farm. Investigate how to make a butterfly garden and which plants encourage beneficial insects to visit our gardens. Plant seed trays and practice transplanting seedlings. Information provided and all activities are kid friendly. All ages are welcome. The class is free and open to the public.
